USANA Takes It All the ‘Whey’

We’re always looking for fun ways to promote USANA through social media, so when Kathy Dalton, a USANA Senior Marketing Manager, approached me about making a chocolate whey taste test video, I jumped at the idea. Plus, I thought it would be cool to see how USANA’s Chocolate Whey Nutrimeal stacked up taste-wise against other whey products on the market.

The event turned out to be a lot of fun — and educational. Check out the video below chronicling the experiment (please keep in mind I am a newbie on iMovie and videography in general). Depending on the response, we’re thinking of doing more stuff like this, so if you have any ideas for future adventures, please feel free to leave them in the comments or e-mail them to us. Either way, let us know what you think!

Our taste test was fairly straightforward. Kathy purchased a few competitors’ products, we gathered a handful of USANA employees, and we headed into the studio to conduct a blind taste test. It took about 45 minutes from start to finish, not including time spent editing video.

We’re happy to say five out of seven USANA employees prefer the taste of USANA’s Chocolate Whey Nutrimeal over the leading brands. Now, I know what you’re thinking: “Of course USANA’s product will be the favorite; these are USANA employees doing the tasting, for crying out loud!”

True, the seven tasters all work at USANA. But we didn’t want the actual test results to be predetermined. So Kathy, USANA Food Scientist Todd DeBloois, and myself set everything up beforehand, poured the various products into identical cups, and hid the packaging before the tasters entered the room. It was all on the up-and-up and somewhat official, if not incredibly scientific. Promise.

And the result was that not everyone in our group liked the taste of USANA’s Chocolate Whey Nutrimeal best. But that’s OK. I think it added a touch of authenticity to the test.
