The New Standard: USANA’s In-House Manufacturing

Do you know what’s in your vitamins? I mean, do you really know? Sure, the ingredients are right there on the label, as are the quantities of each ingredient. But believe it or not, what’s written on the outside of the bottle might not be what’s contained inside.
When you’re dealing with something as important as your health, you want to know exactly what you’re getting, right? Of course.
A Worthwhile Guarantee
USANA’s Potency Guarantee, which ensures what’s stated on the label is actually contained within the product, is extremely important. But USANA wouldn’t be able to make that guarantee if it couldn’t keep a close eye on the manufacturing process from start to finish.
Thousands of people around the world are trusting their health to USANA every day. It’s a huge responsibility that we all take very seriously.
Here’s a quick story: One of our scientists recently met another scientist at an industry conference. The non-USANA scientist criticized our extensive quality control protocols, saying they are a waste of money. After all, he reasoned, consumers only see what comes out of the bottle — they don’t care about everything that goes into it.
The thing is, we care. And we believe our customers care, too. It goes without saying that they deserve the best we have to offer. We all deserve to know our health is valued. Every product we manufacture represents a promise — whether to an average person like you and me or to an Olympic athlete training for gold.
And when you have so many people relying on you to deliver the highest quality nutritional supplements, you do everything in your power to deliver on your promises.
Why In-House Manufacturing?
USANA’s in-house manufacturing is one of the many ways we demonstrate our commitment to our customers. Why is this significant, you might ask? For a number of reasons:
1. Not every company has the ability to manufacture 90% of its products like USANA does. This allows us to keep a close eye on every step of the production process — beginning with the raw ingredients to the batches we pull for testing to the product that goes out the door. We also treat the few products produced by qualified vendors as if they were produced by USANA. We perform lab tests to verify they meet our quality standards before they leave our building.
2. The raw ingredients we use undergo an extensive vetting process. In fact, if any of USANA’s raw ingredients fail quality control testing, we stop using them immediately. No exceptions.
3. Every batch of our product is tested at various points in the production process. This gives us multiple chances to catch any errors, should they occur. This is also one of the reasons why in the nearly 20 years we’ve been doing business, USANA has never once had to issue a recall.
4. We use, and stringently maintain, some of the best equipment available. Each year, USANA reinvests in our facilities. We upgrade machinery, improve buildings, and train our staff on the newest technology. Facilities like ours take years to cultivate, and we take pride in that.
5. All this means that when the time comes for our products to be tested by an independent third-party, we can feel confident in the results. Not only are we NSF-certified to be in compliance with FDA “Good Manufacturing Practices”, but we are the only supplement tested and approved for use by the Women’s Tennis Association and have passed every single product verification test done by ConsumerLab.com. In many ways, we welcome third-party testing, which allows us to show off all our hard work.
A Point of Pride
So when someone tells us we shouldn’t take our manufacturing so seriously, we simply smile and return to our award-filled, certificate-laden, state-of-the-art facilities and continue producing the best products we can at one of the most successful, trusted nutritional health companies in the world.

During my career of consulting to pharmaceutical, nutricutical, food, and beverage plants I’ve toured many different plants including Usana twice. I am very proud to say that the USANA manufacturing facility, practices, and controls are on par with and better than most of the prescription drug companies and biotech facilities I’ve been through.
As a sad contrast I’ve been through one supplement manufacturing plant who had the owners dogs running around the production area and people smoking in close proximity to the dispensing, mixing, and capsule filling areas. They were proud that they’d just passed their FDA inspection!
I’m so glad I put USANA in my body every day – I truly know what is in each tablet!

What are some possible ways USANA will be able to use the FDA Registered Facility? Will this mean that we can take that stupid label off our products which states, these products have not been approved by the FDA?
