Balance an Essential Component for Healthy Lifestyle

I see this all the time, where women put themselves last in life. They will always put their families, their husbands, their bosses and even some of their friends first before themselves. WHY? Because women are empathetic creatures that have a hard time in saying “No.”

As I interact with business women around the world, I feel that the need for us to find balance becomes an essential component to live a healthy lifestyle.

Let’s take a working mom for example: She puts in at least 40 hours a week to generate an income; 12 hours of traveling time; another 60 hours or more a week to cook, run errands, buy groceries, attend her kids sports activities and clean her home; and 56 hours to sleep if she is lucky to get 8 hours a night. What time is left for herself?  She is so busy making ends meet that she has entirely forgotten about herself.

Women need to lead a simpler lifestyle in order to create more balance for themselves. There are six areas of simplification — your household, your lifestyle, your finances, your job, your relationship and your health. However I will share a few key ones with you.

Areas of simplification are:

  • Simplify your eating habits
  • Make water your drink of choice
  • Go for a walk
  • Get up an hour earlier
  • Be in bed by nine one night a week
  • Learn to meditate
  • Spend one day a month in solitude
  • Do a retreat once a year
  • Do one thing at a time
  • Take time to watch the sunset
  • Stop being a slave to your daytimer
  • Do what you really want to do
  • Turn your hobby into your job
  • Reduce the clutter in your life
  • Include your family in your work life
  • Have a fruit or juice fast one day a week
  • Work where you live or live where you work

At the end of the day, we need to tell ourselves,“WE ARE WORTH IT AND WE NEED TO TAKE CARE OF OURSELVES FIRST.”
