Shared Vision is a Great Foundation for a Lasting Partnership

In 1988, International Relief Teams was born because a man named Barry La Forgia dedicated his life to rid the world of human suffering. In 1992, Dr. Myron Wentz founded USANA Health Sciences, Inc., with a vision of a world free from pain and suffering. It is through this shared vision that these two organizations are working together through the USANA True Health Foundation.

Earlier this month, Barry visited USANA’s Corporate Offices to explain IRT’s vision and share how donations through the True Health Foundation have been used to make lives better. “The most important thing is to let people know they haven’t been forgotten,” Barry says. “You don’t just restore their home, you restore their hope.”

IRT is a trusted relief organization that assists victims of disaster, poverty and neglect. IRT offers “gifts of hope” including disaster relief, providing life saving medicines for children, providing shelter for the homeless, providing training to save babies’ lives, transforming lives through surgery for thousands of families worldwide, and adopting needy families and children in shelters and orphanages. The mission of the USANA True Health Foundation is to provide the most critical human necessities — nutrition, clothing, shelter, medical assistance and health education — to those who are suffering or in need.

USANA and IRT have partnered to bring water purification tablets, food, and boots to protect children from disease after the devastating 2012 flooding in Manila, Philippines, and the True Health Foundation is providing funding to assist with rebuilding homes for the uninsured after Hurricane Sandy shattered the lives of thousands living in the northeast United States.

Most recently, the True Health Foundation pledged $10,000 to help the victims of Typhoon Bopha in the Philippines. Bopha made landfall Tuesday, Dec. 4, destroying homes and causing landslides and flash flooding. More than 500 people were killed in the storm and hundreds are still missing. At least 300,00 people have lost their homes since the storm struck.
