The USANA Test Kitchen: Something New and Fresh

It’s good to be back with you in the USANA Test Kitchen. We are a little over two months into the year, which could be the time many of us struggle to maintain our goals. This is certainly the case for me.

My stick-to-it-iveness has been a bit off. With spring (hopefully) around the corner, I decided to start shaking off winter and try something new.

Chocolate Mint Shake

Try this healthy twist on a Chocolate Mint Shake.

This shake was inspired by Thin Mint cookies. Yes, it is that time of year again, and boxes of cookies are showing up everywhere. I decided to use mint tea, which I thought gave the shake a nice mint flavor without overpowering it like mint extract might.

I used two tea bags, and steeped the tea a very long time.

Ingredients

  • 10 oz cooled mint tea
  • 3 scoops Chocolate Whey NutrimealTM
  • 2 teaspoons Fibergy® Plus

Directions

Put all ingredients in a shaker bottle or container of choice, mix and enjoy.

Avocado Chocolate Pudding

I have seen a number of recipes for avocado pudding, and I finally decided to try one. I’m glad I did. Absolutely delicious! Every recipe I have read claims you cannot tell it is made with avocado. I love avocados, so it wouldn’t bother me if I tasted them. But I could see how it could be a turn off for others.

Well, I have to say at least one recipe is right. The only thing that comes through in this recipe is chocolate.

This recipe is from the Gluten Free Dairy Free Cooking Queen blog, created by Ayelet Fleming (a USANA Director living in New Zealand). Her recipes are approachable and focus on healthy alternatives to foods that fit into our lives. This recipe is also vegan and raw — even better!

Ingredients

  • 1 ripe avocado
  • 1/4 cup cocoa powder
  • 3 tablespoons maple syrup
  • 1 tablespoon olive oil (other options: coconut oil or grapeseed oil)
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • Pinch of salt

Directions

  1. Mix all ingredients together, either in a mixing bowl or food processor.
  2. Eat immediately or chill in refrigerator for about half hour first.

I hope you enjoy these recipes, and that they help you refresh and refocus. Have you tried a new recipe lately to add some variety to your routine? Please share in the comments, so we can all be inspired.
