3 Reasons Body Rox is the Best Supplement for Teens

USANA Body Rox - Supplement Spotlight

We all know that picky kids tend to get inadequate nutrition as they’re growing. And unfortunately, that situation can become even worse as picky eaters grow into teens who often have terrible eating habits. In fact, dietary surveys have revealed that a larger percentage of teens have nutrient deficiencies than any other age group.

Fortunately, now that it’s summer, most teens will be eating meals at home, so if parents stock their home with healthier options, it can help teens get the nutrition they need and keep them from bingeing on junk food.

Kristen Kizer, R.D., L.D., a clinical dietician with Houston Methodist Wellness Services, offers some suggestions — the suggestions aren’t always perfect, but they’re a start. And they might help inspire some other ideas.

USANA Body Rox - Supplement SpotlightA well-balanced multivitamin and mineral supplement for teens such as USANA’s Body Rox™ can be an easy addition to a healthier diet, helping to ensure young adults get all the right nutrients. (It also can be a great option for those who may not wish to take a full dose of the USANA® Essentials every day.)

Here are three reasons why Body Rox is the best choice.

1. There is No D-Bate: Vitamin D is Important

One nutrient of particular concern for teens is vitamin D. As they spend more time indoors, on top of eating a less than ideal diet, their vitamin D levels can plummet. A study published in the April 2014 issue of Public Health Nutrition observed, “It is currently not possible for children consuming the habitual diet to meet the US Institute of Medicine (IOM) dietary reference intake for vitamin D.”

Much ado has been made about the inadequacy of the IOM’s recommended amounts of vitamin D, so the observation that teens aren’t even getting that much vitamin D is a cause for concern.

Vitamin D has long been accepted as being important for developing bones, as it supports healthy calcium use by the body. And bone health is especially important during adolescence, since the majority of our bone mass develops during these critical years.

Further, vitamin D receptors are found on most cells in the body, indicating that it’s important for so much more than bone health. For teens, vitamin D, in addition to the other nutrients in Body Rox, is especially important for staying well, as they help support healthy immune function.*

2. Smarty Pants: Better Support for Maturing Brains

A nutrient that emerging science continues to reveal is important from before birth through adulthood is choline. However, it still is either not part of many teen vitamin formulations or is found in negligible amounts.

Body Rox delivers 45 mg of choline per day. Why is it important? Choline plays a role in cell function and fat metabolism, but most importantly to teens, it plays an important role in nervous system transmissions and cell signaling, making it important for supporting maturing brain function.*

3. Looking Good: Added Support for Healthy Eyes and Skin

USANA Body RoxTwo nutrients that are rarely found in teen supplements are lutein and lycopene. These carotenoids, along with beta carotene, vitamins C and E, zinc, and copper, help protect the eyes and support healthy skin.

For athletic kids who play outdoors, lutein can help protect the eyes from UV rays and keep vision sharp. And lycopene provides antioxidant support for the skin and body. Research has also suggested that lycopene can help support smooth skin.*

Being a good example and encouraging your teen to take Body Rox and make small dietary changes is an easy way to make a big difference in his or her future health, a difference that could spread to others. As Nancy Drew demonstrated, one person can have a tremendous effect on the health of young people.
