Success on the Beach: Behind the Scenes in Mexico

USANA Success on the Beach 2014

USANA Success on the Beach 2014

I was the only person in the Cancun airport wearing a flannel shirt. It took exactly one step outside the automatic doors to figure out why.

After a few days my body and my wardrobe adjusted to the climate—mid-80s with humidity hovering around 350 percent. And I was able to make the most out of a really great assignment—covering the amazing trip we aptly named Success on the Beach.

USANA Success on the Beach 2014Sitting in my fantastic room—complete with Jacuzzi tub that had jets that rocked me to sleep one afternoon—I had highlighted some of the big events on an agenda jam-packed with fun. And they definitely didn’t disappoint. How could they?

A variety of dinners with Growth 25 members and contest winners right next to the big, blue ocean. Team building in the jungle, where I got to rappel and zipline for the first time. Going to a masquerade party wearing my fox mask. Helping repaint a school in Tulum, Mexico. Exploring the culture and cuisine of Playa del Carmen. Eating in a legitimate cave. Kissing a dolphin right on the lips. (Dolphins have lips, right?)

USANA Success on the Beach 2014All of it was just as exciting and awesome as you might expect—check out our daily Facebook updates and videos for proof. I’ll remember those experiences long after the pictures and video are deleted from my phone.

But the very best things were the spaces in between—the moments that were naturally filled in like sandy footprints at high tide.

It was the slash of sweat dripping off my cold drink at the beach while I talked to my coworkers. (Who are seriously the best, by the way. Our recognition staff—Amanda, Elise, Teresa, Jamie, and Esther—really did rock the beach.)

The feeling of raindrops on our heads while we enjoyed the pool between trainings and dinners.

Smiles sealing secrecy pacts about all the bad dancing I did.

Mostly, it was the people who shared their stories and their lives and their laughter. It was the conversations and connections that couldn’t have happened in any other place, at any other time.

So big thanks to all of those who took part in making Success on the Beach such a memorable experience. If you were there, share some of your stories with us in the comments section. We’d love to hear them.
