6 Summer Skin Care Survival Routines

Summer Skin Care

Note: The following is a guest post by Licensed Aesthetician Maggie Pierce.

As the temperatures begin to warm up outside, it’s easy to throw on your favorite sundress or shorts and head outdoors to soak in the sun. But before you do, remember to take care of your skin from the inside and the outside, to support it in maintaining that healthy summer glow!

Skin Care Survival Tip #1

Summer Skin CareCover up: Before you head out to the beach, make sure you apply a high-quality sunscreen and throw a fun summer hat into your bag to protect your face from burning. While vitamin D from the sun is a good infusion for the body, it’s important to protect your skin from overexposure to UV rays that could leave your skin feeling irritated and looking dry. Look for a lotion that is water-resistant, antioxidant rich, and is a broad-spectrum of at least SPF 45.

Skin Care Survival Tip #2

Choose a gentle cleanser: The health of your skin’s immune barrier needs support against environmental changes, such as temperature variations and weather conditions. By using a gentle daily cleanser that is soap- and detergent-free, as well as paraben-free, will allow your skin to stay balanced without over drying it.

Skin Care Survival Tip #3

Summer Skin CareLoad up on vitamin C: Choose a nutri-ceutical line of skin care products that provides nutrients for cellular penetration into the skin. Layering products with no added parabens that deliver critical nutrients, like stabilized vitamin C, has huge benefits including aid in repair and restoration for your skin. Since your body doesn’t produce it naturally, you can also add it into your diet via bright colored, organic fruits and vegetables.

Skin Care Survival Tip #4

Exfoliate: Add a gentle exfoliation process to your routine, once or twice a week to help keep your skin glowing and feeling fresh. Your skin has many layers and the outermost is called the stratum corneum that is made up of dead, flat skin cells that shed about every two weeks. Think of this layer as a barrier that you want to gently remove to allow deeper penetration of valuable nutrients into the skin via a nutri-ceutical skin care system.

Skin Care Survival Tip #5

Summer Skin CareSkip the sugar: Keep an eye on what you eat and drink during the impending Summer parties. Distress signals from your body such as chapped lips, dry or brittle nails, and a dry or flaky scalp may mean you need to add more healthy fats to your diet and cut back on the sweet and salty items. Next time you head to a barbeque, considering sticking with dishes that include items like organic coconut oil, avocadoes, raw walnuts, and wild-caught salmon. Also consider adding a probiotic to your diet for support in balancing your digestion, which also balances the skin inside and out.

Skin Care Survival Tip #6

Stay hydrated with H2O: It’s easy to drink ice cold lemonades, teas or even the occasional margarita during these hotter months, but remember drinks high in sugar, caffeine and alcohol can leave you feeling bloated and dehydrated. Stick with water when you can and try infusing it with fruits like lemon, strawberries or oranges. Not only will your waist thank you but so will your skin.

Keeping hydrated during summer is very important. Drink a lot of water because this is the season that you will sweat a lot. If you want to have a healthy and glowing skin during summer, drink ample amount of water.
