Staying Healthy with USANA: Get Your Body in Tip-Top Shape

It seems like when summer comes around, there is always a long list of chores just waiting to be completed. Outdoor projects abound. You have to mow the lawn, weed your flower beds, plant those tomatoes and zucchini, and fix that screen door.

When summer rolls around, attention turns to yard work and house upkeep. Take the opportunity to do a little personal health maintenance as well.

Maybe your home needs a new coat of paint, or you really want to try to make that nifty, cute bookcase you discovered on Pinterest.

But while summer seems to be the time everyone decides to upkeep and maintain their home to keep it in tiptop shape, it’s important that you don’t forget: your body needs upkeep, too! So, what should you do?

Get Your Annual Physical

I know, it’s not something people look forward to, but it’s important to see your doctor at least once a year to make sure everything is working just like it should be. USANA even holds the Prevent Event at this time each year, which motivates employees to get their annual physical.

In return for going to the doctor, USANA enters employees’ names into a drawing for fabulous prizes, like TVs, iPads, travel vouchers, and more. Why such great rewards for a small little doctor’s visit? Getting your physical every year can prevent small problems from becoming bigger, more costly issues in the future.

Get Those Teeth Checked

If you haven’t been to the dentist in a while, summer is a great time to start. While most insurance plans pay for a visit to the dentist once every six months, a lot of people seem to put this one off for one, two, or even five years. Don’t let this be you.

If you can’t remember the last time you went to the dentist for a routine cleaning, ask your friends and family for some recommendations of good dentists in your area, and call to make an appointment. Again, maintenance is key: the more often you go to the dentist, the less likely you are to have an expensive (and painful) problem later on.

See What’s Going on with Your Eyes

As someone who’s had corrective lenses since fifth grade, going to the optometrist is a no brainer for me. But I know a lot of people who have never even been to see an eye doctor simply because they think their vision is fine.

Listen, just because you don’t wear glasses doesn’t mean you can pass on this important body maintenance step. In addition to checking your need for corrective lenses, an optometrist also checks for signs of serious conditions, such as glaucoma (increased pressure inside the eye), retinopathy (a degenerative condition), and cataracts (an aging of the lens in your eye, which causes a slow deterioration in vision).

Maintain to Gain…Health

It’s not always pleasant, but checking in with the professionals just once or twice a year is an important step in helping maintain the health of your body. After just a few appointments, you can be sure you’re giving your body the attention it needs…and get back to those home improvement projects you’ve been itching to get to all summer long.
