Lending a Hand: Supporting Children’s Hunger Fund

For a decade, USANA Health Sciences has partnered with Children’s Hunger Fund (CHF) to assist the non-profit in its mission of helping alleviate the suffering of children across the globe. Since 2001, USANA and its worldwide network of Independent Associates have donated more than $11 million to CHF.

To some, hunger is just a statistic. But the reality is thousands of children worldwide go hungry each day. Founded in 1991 by Dave Phillips, CHF is determined to provide relief to these impoverished children.

It’s easy to forget how fortunate we are, especially compared to others who are fighting simply to survive. Together, USANA and CHF have worked to provide nourishment and medical care to needy individuals.

Whether it’s through product donation, financial assistance, or even volunteering at various CHF warehouses around the country, USANA Associates are doing their part in helping with this cause. In addition, CHF distributes Usanimals™ to children in many areas across the world.

Helping Out

There are many ways to support CHF, as USANA Associate Mark Rickert knows from experience.

For months, Mark has been collecting donations in support of an adventure that begins today. Mark is climbing to the top of Mt. Rainier, a climb with the primary purpose of raising funds for CHF. He set a goal to raise $5,000, and you can bet we’ll be cheering him on!

Another program — Recycle 4 Hunger — was organized by an out-of-the-box-thinking Natalia Kim, a USANA Associate. It’s a great concept — recycling with proceeds donated to CHF. You should check it out and see if you can implement something similar in your community. And be sure to “like” the page on Facebook!

Those are just two examples of ways people are helping support this incredible organization. CHF reaches out to those in need through various programs, many of which are listed are on CHF’s website under Our Solutions. They include: Food Paks, Mercy Networks, Disaster Relief, Orphan Care, Leadership Training, Nutritional Supplements, School Supplies, and Toy Distribution.

Children’s Hunger Run

Don’t be discouraged if you can’t afford to make a monetary contribution; think about ways in which you can donate your time or other resources. Perhaps you’ll find inspiration in lacing up your shoes and joining USANA as we hosts our 8th Annual Children’s Hunger Run/Walk on August 27, the last day of USANA’s 2011 International Convention.

Each year early-morning runners blanket the plaza at EnergySolutions Arena for a great cause (were you there last year?). The cost for participants ages 12 and older is $25; children under 12 years are free (minimum $5 donation to receive a t-shirt). Visit the website to register.

CHF & USANA: A Strong Partnership

Dr. Myron Wentz, founder of USANA, dreams of a world free from pain and suffering. Recently Dr. Wentz and Dave Phillips took an inspiring trip to Africa where they distributed Usanimals to many children to help support CHF. Take a peek at some amazing and bright-spirited children.

“CHF’s relationship with USANA continues to amaze me,” says Dave Phillips, the president of CHF. “From the beginning, when Dr. Wentz traveled with me to see firsthand the heartbreak of poverty in Uganda, Romania, Peru, and Ukraine, up until today, when that same heartbreak is felt and responded to by thousands of USANA Associates around the world, I am truly astonished by all that has transpired.”

CHF’s dedication to fighting children’s hunger is apparent. Since CHF’s inception an average of 99% of its total contributions have been used for programs serving the needs of children. Dr. Wentz and USANA have also helped CHF build and fund the Wentz Medical Centres in Uganda, Cambodia, and Malawi. Each center provides medical care for children affected by diseases.

No child should go hungry — especially when we can do something about it.
