USANA Athletes: More Excellent News!

Tim Haran Team USANA 1 Comment

If you read yesterday’s post, you know this is Part 2 of our USANA Athlete Update for this month (and we’ll have even more athlete-related posts tomorrow!)

Team USANA accomplished so many incredible things recently that one blog post simply couldn’t contain it all.

So now, Part 2!

A Perfect Match

It seems like only yesterday we announced this exciting news. Well, the first year of our extended partnership with the WTA is winding down … and what a year it’s been!

Do you want to know what it takes to be a U.S. Open champion? A lot of hard work, that’s what. Here’s singles champ and USANA Brand Ambassador Sam Stosur giving viewers an inside look at a workout. Take a look!

Congratulations, Liezel!

We offered our congratulations on Facebook, but we’d love to share our excitement here as well: Liezel Huber, a good friend of USANA and another one of our Brand Ambassadors, wrapped up a phenomenal year with a victory (with partner Lisa Raymond) in the season-ending TEB BNP Paribas WTA Championships.

That means Liezel will finish the 2011 season ranked doubles world No. 1 for the fourth time in her career. She will extend her total number of weeks as doubles No. 1 to at least 164, moving into second place on the all-time list, behind Martina Navratilova (237 weeks).

Not only did Liezel win four tournaments this year — including the U.S. Open — but she also continued her strong support of Children’s Hunger Fund.

We are honored to have her on Team USANA!

Speaking of CHF…

WTA contributed $25,000 to the Ace Out Hunger program, which benefits Children’s Hunger Fund, a global nonprofit organization fighting hunger in impoverished regions around the world.

If you’re unfamiliar with the Ace Out Hunger program, please check out this post. In addition to WTA’s generous donation, USANA is pleased to donate $10 for every ace served this year since the program began in June. To date, more than 3,500 aces have been hit by WTA players.

“The WTA players applaud all of USANA’s efforts and support Children’s Hunger Fund, an organization extremely effective at distributing funds and supplies to some of the world’s neediest children. We are glad to be able to make a contribution to assist in the fight to rule out hunger,” said Stacey Allaster, Chairman and CEO of the WTA.

Disappointing Worlds for McQuaid

Melanie McQuaid recently competed in the XTERRA World Championships, though the ending isn’t the one the three-time world champ had hoped for.

“Coming within 1/2 a kilometer of finishing any race and not being able to complete it is pretty terrible,” she wrote in an e-mail to us. “When that race is the World Championships and you are winning, well that sucks completely.”

Though disappointed, Melanie’s maintaining a positive outlook heading into 2012.

“I can go into next year knowing I had the form to get it done and thanks to all of you guys, the support to get me there,” she wrote. “Waiting a year to give that another go is definitely an exercise in patience. But there is a lot to accomplish along the way. Thank you for all of your support and encouragement which allows me to dream of the next achievements.”

Here’s a recap she posted on her blog.

All of us at USANA are behind you, Melanie, and will be cheering you on in 2012!

USANA's Dr. Skip VanGorden climbs Mt. Kilimanjaro.

  • Congratulations to John Woolley, a member of the USANA family — shout-out to Team Northrup! — who recently won his division at the U.S. National Shooting Championships in San Antonio. Thanks to Penny Kirk for the heads-up. Way to go, John! By the way, if John looks familiar to you, it might be because he’s featured on the Visionex flyer (PDF). Cool!
  • Way to go Dr. Skip VanGorden, who summitted Mt. Kilimanjaro. A long-time USANA supplement user and a member of The Ripple Effect Team, Dr. VanGorden took Nutrimeal and Nutrition Bars with him on his journey to the 19,340-foot summit. Congratulations! Thanks to Kathy D’Mura for passing along the news.
  • It’s getting closer to boxer Mike Lee’s Dec. 3 bout at Madison Square Garden. Mike enters the fight with a 7-0 record (4 KOs). He will be featured on the undercard of the HBO pay-per-view broadcast of the Miguel Cotto/Antonio Margarito junior middleweight championship. Tickets are available by calling the Team Lee offices at (630) 400-6380.
  • Snow is falling on the Wasatch Mountains, meaning it’s time for another awesome season for the Powderbirds! Read all about the Wasatch Powderbird Guides, who are avid USANA product users, and keep them in mind for when you’re in the mood to do a little heli-skiing. Follow them on Twitter for the latest news.

And Finally…

No doubt you’ve seen this photo floating around Facebook and Twitter. We had to share it here. Thanks to Gold Director James Taruc — shout out to Team SyNRG! — for posting awesome photos of him training with the great Manny Pacquiao. Love the USANA logo!

  1. Liezel’s passion for USANA really moves me. She was the first athlete to tell me that her game started to change and improve around the time she started using USANA products. It really made me proud of our products. Since then, other athletes have said the same thing and I myself have even noticed the difference in my health after getting on a USANA regimen. It’s amazing what our products can do.
