Thanks to a little persuasion from Jared Crebs, a USANA mentor on her team, she registered for International Convention right after joining the USANA family in June 2010. Little did she know their paths would cross again…and again…and again.
Although they were polar opposites—he was driven, motivated and focused, a former guitar teacher, while she was fun, outgoing and relaxed, a go-go dancer and makeup artist—it was at that table in California Pizza Kitchen that the first sparks of romance began to fly.
But just like building a solid business, their relationship took time.
Over the next eight months, they were off and on, up and down—then back together again. “That’s when it really dawned on me that I wanted to be with him,” Crystal said. “It was the breakups that made us realize we loved each other,” Jared echoed.
That’s when they decided to tie the knot, and began planning their wedding.
That’s also when their world was turned upside down.
Right after getting engaged, Crystal was diagnosed with cervical cancer. Far from destroying their relationship, however, the experience only made them stronger.
“Crystal had such a positive attitude through the entire process,” said Jared. “She was my rock, and it only made me love her more.”
After receiving the diagnosis, the pair turned to their USANA family for support.
They contacted Dr. Ladd McNamara, Dr. Debra Kern and Dr. Alberto Peña to get advice and better understand what they were up against. They felt support from their team, leaders and USANA itself.
“I received a beautiful bouquet of flowers from USANA headquarters saying, ‘Our prayers are with you, we support you,’ and that meant a whole lot to me,” said Crystal. “I was so touched that they cared enough to reach out.”
During all of their trips and treatments, their USANA business continued to provide them with financial peace of mind, and Jared was able to focus all his attention on helping Crystal get better. The couple even flew down to Brazil to meet with a healer before pursuing treatments back in the States.
“Before USANA I was a low income guitar teacher,” said Jared. “I couldn’t have paid $8,000 to take her to Brazil, or afforded all the expenses … our USANA business paid for all that stuff.”
A year later, after months of hellish treatments, Crystal was finally declared cancer free. With her clean bill of health, the couple was ready to move forward with the wedding, and walked down the aisle on December 14, 2014—stronger and more deeply in love than ever.
Shortly after the wedding, their business started going up, and they quickly became Executive Ruby Directors. Now the pair is working to empower their team members to reach the same levels of achievement.
Although Jared and Crystal are facing forward, they’re still keeping an eye on the past. Each year during Convention, they stroll down memory lane and take their team to dinner at California Pizza Kitchen—back where it all started, and their love story began.
