3 Ways USANA Proflavanol C100 Supports Beauty from Within

When it comes to the fight against aging, selecting the right products for your skin type is only half of the equation. What you choose to eat every day also has an impact on your appearance. Your skin is a reflection of your inner health and quality of nutrition.

Like other organs in your body, your skin is a complex system that needs many different nutrients to function properly. So, how can you feed your healthy glow?

Begin by eating a balanced diet with enough protein, low-glycemic carbohydrates (mostly from plants), and beneficial fats. Drinking enough water to stay hydrated is also extremely important to keep your skin refreshed. Beyond a good diet, be confident you are meeting your body’s micronutrient needs by taking USANA® CellSentials™ every day. This will help you create a strong foundation of nutrition for overall health, including the health of your skin.*

Good skin health has also been connected to eating fruit and vegetables in various research studies. So, fill up on all your favorites. To help ensure you absorb the beauty-building goodness of vitamin C, plus the phytonutrients found in blue and purple fruits, look no further than Proflavanol® C100.*

The Goodness Inside Proflavanol C100

Proflavanol C100 delivers a healthy dose of skin-supporting nutrients in each bilayer tablet.*

Vitamin C is an essential, water-soluble vitamin. Your body can’t make it, so it must come from your diet. It metabolizes and leaves your body fairly quickly, so it’s important you take it regularly. Stress also has an impact on Vitamin C levels. A busy, and stressful, lifestyle can cause it to decline rapidly.*

Consuming vitamin C throughout the day is a great way to help ensure you can maintain an optimal level in your bloodstream at all times. Your body will only use a limited amount of vitamin C at one time. So, when taking Proflavanol C100 plus the CellSentials, you’ll want to space out your supplements. For example, if you take your CellSentials in the morning with breakfast and in the evening with dinner, try adding Proflavanol C100 at lunchtime and/or before bed.*

The phytonutrients in Proflavanol C100 are called “proanthocyanidins.” These are a type of antioxidant that comes from blue and purple fruits and berries.*

The quality of ingredients in Proflavanol C100 sets it apart from the competition. Our grape-seed extract is the highest quality. It’s formulated to be highly absorbable and to provide a high percentage of the active compounds needed to deliver real benefits. And the vitamin C comes from USANA’s unique Poly C blend, which combines ascorbic acid with mineral salts (ascorbates) to help it raise vitamin C levels higher and longer than ascorbic acid alone.*

Beauty Benefit #1:
Proflavanol C100 Helps Nourish Skin by Supporting Circulation

Proflavanol C100 was formulated primarily for cardiovascular health. It helps keep your heart healthy by supporting good circulation throughout your body. Every part of your body gets the nutrients it needs from your blood circulation. And your skin is no exception.*

The top layer of your skin gets its nutrients from tiny blood vessels found in deeper layers. Proflavanol C100 can help the nutrients from your healthy diet actually make it to your skin by supporting healthy blood flow.*

A study USANA researchers collaborated on with Boston University shows a combination of vitamin C and grape-seed extract helps promote blood flow in even the tiniest peripheral arteries in your fingertips. This level of blood flow is supported throughout your body. By helping to increase blood circulation through even the tiniest vessels in the layers of your skin, you know your skin is getting the nutrients it needs to look healthy.*

Beauty Benefit #2:
Proflavanol C100 Protects Skin Health with Powerful Antioxidant Action

When it comes to your skin, regular sun exposure is the main cause of damage to collagen that may lead to the appearance of aging. The best way to protect your skin from such damage is by wearing a broad-spectrum sunscreen with at least an SPF 30 every day. If you use a Celavive® daytime moisturizer, then you’re covered for general daily wear. If you plan to spend more than two hours outdoors, apply a good sunscreen to all exposed skin.*

Other factors can cause damage to your skin by creating free radicals. These reactive molecules can damage the lipids and proteins that give your skin structure. Your body creates some free radicals naturally; however, things like mental/emotional stress, pollution, smoking, and poor diet can all increase the production of free radicals.*

Free radicals may also cause damage that impairs the normal, healthy function of your skin barrier. This important barrier keeps moisture in your skin and protects it from the environmental elements that can cause damage. Keeping this barrier functioning properly is vital for maintaining healthy, youthful-looking skin. If it is damaged, it will eventually change your complexion with a loss of radiance and the look of premature aging.*

So, other than avoiding the causes of oxidative stress as much as possible, the best approach to protect your skin is two-fold:

  1. Apply sunscreen daily (remember to re-apply if you’re outdoors for longer than two hours) and add hydration with a nutrient-rich moisturizer for your skin type. This will give the top layers of your skin—those most exposed to environmental and lifestyle causes of aging—a first line of protection.*
  2. Ingest antioxidants through your diet to help build up a protective antioxidant reserve.*

Adding Proflavanol C100 to your supplement routine will help bolster your internal antioxidant status to defend your skin cells against damage caused by oxidative stress.*

Vitamin C and grape-seed extract both help neutralize free radicals. Vitamin C has long been known as an excellent antioxidant that also helps renew other antioxidants, like vitamin E, for longer-lasting effects. And, grape-seed bioflavonoids have been shown to be as powerful, if not more, than vitamin C. It reinforces the activity of your body’s own natural antioxidants. And research has shown, when these two ingredients are combined, they work even better to increase antioxidant levels in the body than when used alone.*

Beauty Benefit #3:
Proflavanol C100 Supports Firmer Looking Skin by Supporting Collagen Production

You can’t talk about the skin benefits of Proflavanol C100 without talking about the importance of collagen.*

Collagen accounts for about a third of the total protein in your body. It’s found in your cartilage, tendons, blood vessels, heart, and eyes. It’s also the main structural protein in your skin. It’s like the scaffolding beneath your skin that builds your skin’s structure and gives it strength, elasticity, and firmness. It’s when collagen begins to break down, you begin to see visible sagging and wrinkles.

Unfortunately, a lot of factors in your life are attacking your collagen:

  • Age—Your natural collagen production begins to decline in your twenties. So, the fight against aging skin starts early!
  • The sun—Sun exposure can actually trigger an immune response that degrades collagen and causes structural changes in your skin. Make sure you wear your sun hat!
  • Diet—Sugar, processed, and fried foods can cause the accumulation and formation of something called advanced glycation end-products (the acronym appropriately for this is AGEs). AGEs are caused by a reaction between the sugars from food with proteins and lipids in your skin. This reaction leads to something called “crosslinking” in your collagen, which makes it more rigid and prone to breakage. AGEs are especially damaging. Not only do they make your collagen more fragile, they also generate more free radicals and oxidative stress, and they resist degradation. So, they don’t break down to allow new, healthy collagen to be produced as easily. It’s a really vicious cycle of self-perpetuating damage.

Clearly, it’s important to protect and promote the production of collagen to help keep your skin looking firm. And you can help give your body what it needs to produce collagen naturally with Proflavanol C100: vitamin C.*

A lot of vitamin C is found in your skin’s dermis and epidermis, as it’s a key ingredient your body uses to bolster collagen production. It’s an essential nutrient used to form collagen molecules to help provide stability to collagen’s helix structure.*

The importance of vitamin C to skin health becomes obvious when you look at what happens to people who are severely deficient (not many people are). These people’s skin is fragile, doesn’t heal well, and is usually quite dry.*

On the other hand, those with higher intakes of vitamin C may look younger and healthier.*

Supplementation with vitamin C has been found to decrease serum protein glycation, which could help offset some of the effects of AGEs. And research on dietary intakes shows women with dry skin and a wrinkled appearance had significantly lower intakes of vitamin C, protein, linoleic acid, and other nutrients. Whereas, those with higher intakes of dietary vitamin C have been correlated with a lower likelihood of visible wrinkles and decreased risk of dry skin. This is independent of age, sun exposure, race, menopausal status, energy intake, education, family income, BMI, supplement use, and physical activity.*

The research suggests vitamin C may not only help the skin make collagen, but it could affect the skin’s moisture levels too. The vitamin C in Proflavanol C100 may help complement your topical moisturizers to support your skin’s hydration as well.*

Great article. Being a sun loving sunseeker all my life, now into my 60’s I know I should have taken better care of my skin as a teen, and into my 20’s and 30’s. I did not use sunscreen – just baby oil which ‘cooked’ my skin but I had an awesome tan to show for it. The backs of my hands show the damage done. I love the ProflavanolC – has become one of my favourite go-to’s And of course, the Celavive!
