USANA Compliance: Policies You Can’t Live Without

USANA's compliance department

We live in a world that’s inundated with policies and procedures. Every time you download an app, upgrade software or sign up for a new service, you are required to agree to the “terms and conditions.”

If you’re like most people, you often go straight to the “agree” button, click and go. But shouldn’t we know what we are getting ourselves into?

Unlike some companies’ lengthy terms and conditions that contain hidden rules and fees, USANA’s policies and procedures (login required) are meant to protect you and your business.

Below are three examples of how they do just that.

USANA's compliance department

USANA’s compliance department researches industry laws and regulations so its independent business owners don’t have to. The team oversees policies and procedures designed to help protect Associates and their businesses.

Advertising

Far too often we see news headlines of independent business owners being fined by the FTC for using unauthorized claims in their advertising. The severity of the fines often cripples the owner’s business and causes lifelong financial hardship. When interviewed, these business owners generally had no idea their advertisements were in in violation of the law — and for good reason.

Typical business owners don’t spend hundreds of hours researching industry laws and regulations to ensure their promotional content is compliant, nor should they. USANA believes our independent business owners should be spending their time building their business, not studying law.

USANA’s compliance department has developed an approach to advertising that offers protection for our independent business owners.

Rather than rolling the dice and trying to tackle an advertisement by yourself, USANA’s policy allows distributors at certain leadership levels to submit their advertisement for a full legal review and approval prior to its actual use. This allows you the peace of mind that you will avoid sanctions issued by industry regulators.

Commercial Outlets

The USANA story is remarkable. Dr. Wentz’s vision of creating the healthiest family on earth with an opportunity to create true wealth is truly inspiring.

This vision, as remarkable as it is, is really difficult to portray to a potential customer through a product sitting on a retail store’s shelf. USANA has therefore chosen the direct selling model to distribute its products.

Selling USANA product in a retail store not only is counterintuitive to Dr. Wentz’s vision, but it puts at a disadvantage the thousands of hard working independent distributors who work diligently to sell the product through appropriate channels.

Not only has USANA’s compliance department created a policy that prohibits selling products in a retail establishment, but it proactively enforces this policy through regular monitoring of online auction sites and retail stores.

Unauthorized Recruiting

USANA’s policies also protect the organizations of its independent business owners through strict enforcement of unauthorized recruiting practices.

Such unauthorized recruiting activities include, among others:

  • The promotion of another direct selling opportunity to any USANA distributor
  • The recruitment of one of your downline members to another organization
  • The offering of any competing product or service to one of your organization’s members

Policies Help Everyone

All of these unauthorized activities harm the interests of our members, and they discount the hard work and dedication each distributor has made to create a business of their own.

After all, our sole purpose as USANA’s compliance team is to ensure your business is protected, and is able to continue for many years to come.
